On the surface Kwari is a superior rapid-action first person shooter with all the sci-fi setting weapons and trappings you’d ever need. However there is a whole lot more going on.

Kwari has been designed with a singular purpose in mind – to give you the opportunity to translate your shooter skills into some serious cash. Everything about the game has been tailored to that effect, so much so that even an average player should be able to get ahead in the game quickly.

Every time you hit another player in Kwari you make money. Every time you are hit by another player it costs you. Every shot counts. How much is down to the stake level you play in. But this is not the only way to win.

Doing damage to yourself, breaking crates, use of certain map features or picking up additional weapons, pickups and health packs may have a fractional cost attached. This cost is transferred between a series of jackpots, prizes and awards available in the game, all of which can be won by any player, regardless of the skill or stake level of game they prefer to play.

At no point, however does Kwari take any of this money. 100% of the cash generated through playing the game goes back to the players in the form of prizes.

The most frequent of these prizes is the Pill Jackpot, which is split between the player who carries the Pill the longest, and the player who finishes the round with the Pill.

Games have come a long way from simple diversions and time wasters. The medical field is using them to simulate surgery and other medical procedures before moving students and doctors onto live patients. The Army uses games to teach greenhorn soldiers the ins and outs of proper tactics and also as a recruiting tool. Some games have even been sponsored by the United Nations as lessons on how to supply relief to needy countries.

On the other hand, some controversial games with extreme views have also become available. Among them are a homemade Columbine Massacre role-player, a John F. Kennedy assassination shooter starring Lee Harvey Oswald, and a massively multiplayer online game sponsored by the Chinese Communist Party that asks players to kill the Japanese.

The latest game to raise eyebrows is titled Night of Bush Capturing, according to SITE (Search for International Terrorist Entities). The game was allegedly created by The Global Islamic Media Front, which SITE describes as a "jihadist mouthpiece."

As its name implies, the goal of the game is to hunt down "a character representing" President George W. Bush. There are six levels, with names such as Jihad Beginning, American's Hell, and Bush Hunter Like a Rat, and traditional jihadist songs play in the background.

SITE says the PC game, which was aimed at "terrorist children," is a modded version of Quest for Saddam, which was released after the US invaded Iraq in 2003.

The action was initiated when someone from American Apparel approached popular 'SL' architect Aimee Weber about opening a virtual version of the clothes store, according to Wallace.

Weber, who designed the building, said it was based on the fashion label's Tokyo showroom, Wallace reported. The sleek, mostly glass structure is shaped like two stacked boxes, and features lighting that changes at virtual nightfall.

SAN FRANCISCO — IBM Corp. (IBM) didn't throw a lavish casino party or set up an over-the-top booth to mark its return to the International Consumer Electronics Show for the first time in a decade.

Rather, the company reserved its most ambitious consumer initiative for the virtual world.

On Monday, IBM announced plans to build virtual stores for Sears Holdings Corp. (SHLD) and Circuit City Stores Inc. (CC) in the popular online world "Second Life."

The partnerships could help IBM expand its consulting services to corporate clients interested in the growing number of people who belong to immersive online environments, also called the "3-D Internet."

"Second Life" is a subscription-based, 3-D fantasy world devoted to capitalism — a 21st century version of Monopoly that generates real money for successful players. More than 2.4 million people worldwide have "Second Life" characters, called avatars.

Residents of virtual world Second Life are looking for real-world money by setting up stores powered by Amazon (AMZN).com. Since July, at least three retail projects have been launched in Second Life to sell books, music, kitchenware, electronics, and other items in the online retailer's catalog.

Linden Lab of San Francisco, creator and operator of Second Life, doesn't track the Amazon goods sold, since Linden doesn't make money from the sales. Nevertheless, the extension of Amazon.com's reach into a place with more than 1.3 million residents has potential for big sales over time, given Second Life's growth rate. Since September, the population of the online world has jumped from 735,000 subscribers to more than 1.3 million.

Whether Amazon.com becomes a fixture within Second Life will be left up to its members, who build the revenue-sharing virtual stores and write the scripts needed to integrate with Amazon.com's Web services for third-party retailers. Second Life residents do a total of about $6 million worth of business a month, up from about $2 million a few months ago.
